Literacy

Altru Literacy Project is designed to identify early interventions that can keep kids in school. Beginning with research to create provide a guide and roadmap for the educators as they attempt to fix what is widely accepted as a dysfunctional system that has been made worse by the pandemic. Initial focus is New York City.

54% of adults in the United States have prose literacy below the 6th grade level. The implications are staggering when considering illiteracy’s effects on the American economy, the school-prison pipeline, employment levels, racial equity, and equality.

K12 Education: The pandemic has created an opportunity to reimagine and reinvent the failing US education system. Altru Institute's primary focus is on addressing literacy and leveraging new approaches and technologies.

Our objective is to assemble a network of those who care about literacy.
