Altru Institute Venezuela Project

The Altru Institute formed Economia Venezuela  in late December in recognition of the convergence of two major factors: external pressure from the United States and the global attention generated by the Nobel Prize awarded to opposition leader María Corina Machado and her dramatic rescue from Venezuela.

These events led us to believe that a regime change may be imminent and could significantly impact Latin American politics. The capture of Maduro on January 3 set this process in motion.

Since its founding in 2017, the Altru Institute has met in Davos each January to bring together thought leaders addressing society’s most complex challenges. We felt these developments in the Caribbean warranted focused attention and began recruiting thought leaders for a dedicated session. Future of Venezuela will be held at the House of Pioneers on Pischa Mountain, near Davos Dorf.

We also recognized a significant information gap regarding the realities and opportunities on the ground. In response, we assembled a network of journalists and researchers within Venezuela to provide insight into how the economy is functioning today and to identify opportunities for the diaspora seeking to return and rebuild the country.

Economia de Venezuela will focus on delivering high-quality information for entrepreneurs and investors on how the country’s major sectors function and the opportunities to rebuild them.

Our approach is to aggregate and curate insights from informed citizens across the country, with a focus on key sectors: Energy, Infrastructure, Banking, Finance, Mining, and Media. A core component of this effort will be in-depth analytical research reports on each sector, supported by interviews with the people most knowledgeable about them.

The initiative will begin in Davos, Switzerland, and continue with meetings in major diaspora hubs including Madrid, Miami, Houston, Bogotá, and others.

These meetings are designed to bring together the most informed and thoughtful voices to share insights on how Venezuela can most efficiently return to its former prosperity and overcome the devastation caused by socialism and dictatorship, which have crushed the hopes and dreams of millions.
