Davos, Switzerland — The Altru Institute has launched the New Venezuela Project, a new research and policy initiative aimed at developing an apolitical, data-driven roadmap for Venezuela’s economic and institutional recovery, as international attention on the country’s future continues to grow.

The initiative will be directed by Economía Venezuela, a business media enterprise created by the Institute in late December to address  the vast information gap which has existed for decades under the Chauvista regime. The effort follows geopolitical focus on Venezuela and increased interest in the country's future particularly by the nearly 8 million of the diaspora which fled during the last 20 years as well as investors internationally that recognize the significance of these recent events and Venezuela's potential to regain its status as a prosperous and democratic nation.

The New Venezuela Project is guided by a nonpartisan principle — “Not who, but how” — signaling an intent to focus economic performance, and institutional design rather than political actors or ideological outcomes.

“The objective is not to influence political outcomes,” “It is to identify what works, what can be implemented, and what institutional frameworks can support economic recovery — regardless of who is in power.”

Founded in 2017, the Altru Institute is a New York and Swiss based thinktank that has hosted annual gatherings in Davos addressing complex global challenges. Its primary work has been in sustainability and wellness. The Venezuela initiative is in response to what it believes is the most significant geopolitical development in generation. Latin America and and global stability may hinge on how Venezuela develops. Its significance and potential impact cannot be overstated.

The project will engage a network of journalists, researchers, economists both inside Venezuela and from the diaspora.  producing detailed analytics on how various economic sectors are currently operating and the opportunities to rebuild each to world class standards.  The research will provide granular, sector-level intelligence for potential investors, entrepreneurs, and Venezuelans considering returning to participate in reconstruction.

Reports on sectors including Energy, Infrastructure, Banking, Finance, Mining, and Media, combining field reporting with interviews from business leaders, technical experts. The goal is to offer practical strategies to rebuild these key sectors to become world class.

The initiative began with a session in Davos entitled the Future of Venezuela. Additional forums are planned in major diaspora centers such as Madrid, Miami, Houston, and Bogotá, where it will convene investors, researchers, policymakers.

The long-term objective is to produce a technocratic, execution-focused national recovery framework that can serve as a reference point for future Venezuelan administrations, international financial institutions, and private-sector stakeholders.

As a neutral, research-driven platform, the New Venezuela Project seeks to assemble the best ideas from around the world to be applied to the country’s rebuild.
